FOTOFACIAL™

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) is useful for the treatment of benign vascular and pigmented lesions. The purpose of a FotoFacial™ procedure, which uses IPL™, is to improve the appearance of the skin. Redness, rosacea, sundamage, texture and pore size, and irregular pigmentation can be improved with FotoFacial™ treatments. Typically, there is no significant “downtime” with the treatments. During the initial few days, pigmented lesions become darker, and red lesions become purple or bruised and then they begin fading. Contraindications may include: pregnancy, use of medications that increase photosensitivity, diabetes, a history of keloid scarring, use of anticoagulants, a history of bleeding disorders, and recent or planned sun exposure. FotoFacial™ treatments are a series of five treatments at three-week intervals with gradual clearing occurring over this time.

Before your treatment

Your skin type and concerns were discussed in your initial consultation. A skin care program was recommended to achieve optimal results. Begin your skin care program two to four weeks before your first treatment. Use daily sunblock (SPF 25 or greater) and avoid excessive sun exposure for two weeks before your first treatment. Avoid self-tanners for two days prior to your treatment. Do not wear make-up to your appointment. Fifteen minutes prior to your appointment, apply your topical anesthetic to the entire treatment area(s) avoiding your eyes. Bring your topical anesthetic with you to your appointment.

After your treatment…

Avoid excessive sun exposure and continue using daily sunblock. You may use your moisturizer immediately after your procedure. Wait until the day after your procedure to use the remaining skin care products. You may apply make-up immediately.
