Laser Vein Removal Home Care Instructions
with Nd-Yag 1064 nM Laser and/or Intense Pulsed Light

There are many causes of undesirable leg veins which include hormonal changes, hydrostatic vascular changes and incompetency or leakiness of the major leg veins. Every effort is made to improve one’s outcome with the most advanced laser treatment(s) available. Patients usually require up to three or more treatments to achieve satisfactory results. These treatments should be spaced four to six weeks apart.

The veins may take several treatments and several months to disappear.

  • The laser or intense pulsed light collapses the vein. It is important to keep the vein closed during the healing process. It is imperative that compression stockings be worn continuously for forty-eight hours after each treatment and for up to 6 weeks after for at least 8 hours a day.
  • Healing can be optimized with post-procedural creams such as TNS. For your convenience, these are available through Aesthetique.
  • Remember that tanning should be avoided 4-6 weeks prior to treatments. Direct sunlight should be avoided for six weeks after treatment and sunblock of SPF 30 or greater is recommended for 12 months after treatment. SkinCeuticals or Kelly Tye Skin Science Sunscreens with SPF 30 or greater offer protection to 300 nanometers. Most ordinary sunscreens don’t offer this protection.
  • Do not take Accutane for 6 months prior to undergoing the treatment.
  • Schedule additional procedures 4-6 weeks apart until satisfactory results are achieved.
  • Please feel free to call the office if questions arise. We welcome your comments and are committed to providing you with state-of-the-art care.

  4. If you have a darker skin type, a topical bleaching cream should be applied for 4-6 weeks before treatment.
  5. Stop all self-tanning products one week before treatment.
  6. A topical anesthetic may be used to reduce the discomfort of treatment. This can be applied at home before the treatment session or at the time of treatment.
  7. Do not shave the treatment area for one day before treatment.
  8. No Accutane for 6 months prior to treatment.

After Care

  • Immediately after treatment, there should be redness and swelling of the follicle. The redness may last 2-3 days, the swelling 2 or more hours. The application of cold packs during the first few hours after treatment will reduce the discomfort and swelling.
  • Avoid sun exposure and use a sunscreen at all times during the course of treatment to avoid the risk of hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not wax, use electrolysis or tweeze for 6 weeks after treatment. Shaving and depilatories may be used.
  • Between 5 to 14 days after treatment, shedding of hair will occur. It can be wiped away with a wet cloth or shaved.

Make an appointment for your next treatment at the first sign of hair regrowth. Hair regrowth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body. It may take 4-6 six weeks for the upper body and possibly as long as 2-3 months for the lower body. New hair growth will not occur for at least 3 weeks after treatment.
