FotoFacial treatments consist of the noninvasive application of intense pulsed light (IPL) to the skin. The light passes through the epidermis and penetrates into the dermis. Specific settings are tailored for each patient and treatment to maximize improvement. Generally, five or more treatments, spaced approximately three weeks apart, are required to see results. Treatment is performed in our office following application of an anesthetic cream to the skin. Unlike more invasive procedures, there is no “down time” with FotoFacial treatment so you may resume normal activities immediately. Areas often treated are the face, neck, décolleté, arms and hands.
Today's new light technology delivers precise dosages of light energy tailored to your skin. Once delivered, the light energy is absorbed by the targeted damaged tissue. Causing the tissue to reverse the stigmata of aging.
Depending on the area treated, there will be a series of five to eight treatments. Treatments usually take from 15 to 30 minutes and are administered under the supervision of the medical director.
Most patients describe the sensation to be like a quick snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. After treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
The best candidates have:
Yes. The process is FDA approved. Advanced light systems have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. These systems treat only the targeted tissues, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. However, some bruising or redness may occur.
After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will progressively increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea and flushing will see a continual decrease in redness with every treatment.
Post-operative discomfort is negligible. The treated skin may appear a little flushed and capillaries may seem to be more visible. Some areas may have brown flecks. The flushed look and the brown flakes soon fade away, and the capillaries appear to vanish, leaving the skin looking younger. Anticipate some increase in pigmentation from day two or three thru day five to seven. These brown “chocolate chips” are the pigment coming to the surface. It is a good sign of an effective treatment. The may be concealed with makeup.
Cold compresses may help with redness or discomfort. One may apply makeup immediately after the treatment; however avoid rejuvenating skin care products such as Glycolics or Retinols for twenty-four hours. Moisturizers are encouraged. Apply sunscreen daily and avoid excessive sun exposure during your treatment.
