Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm is a a gel that is injected into the skin that adds volume to the lips and lifts up and fills out wrinkles and folds. Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm is made of Hyaluronic Acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body that provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm temporarily diminishes depressions and acts as a filler for a period of time, often longer than that of Collagen. It is NOT a replacement for Botox, since it does not alter the muscle activity. While there exist patient differences, most patients experience an improved effect for six to twelve months. Repeating the Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm within six to twelve months is recommended to maintain the effect and diminish wrinkling.
After your injection, keep your head elevated for one hour. Ice packs may be used for one to two days for pain and swelling. Additionally, Advil may be used for discomfort and swelling.
The amount and location of Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm injected corresponds with your initial desires. Treatment is performed on a unit dose of prepackaged syringes of 0.4 or 1.0 cc’s. Syringes cannot be stored. The number of syringes used determines the cost of the treatment.
While every effort is made to optimize results, patients may experience incomplete results. If one’s treated region does not have adequate resolution, retreatment may be necessary. A large portion of the cost of the procedure lies in the cost of the material. Therefore, retreatment of regions will be charged at the normal rates. Every effort is made to minimize the cost of the procedure and the need for retreatment.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm, an injection for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, the lines between the nose and mouth. Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler made of a biodegradable non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA™).
Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts to add volume, lifting up and smoothing out unwanted wrinkles. The gel integrates into the dermal tissue then attracts and binds to water molecules to help maintain volume. It is gradually broken down by the body and disappears without any residue.
No pre-test is needed.
Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm can be used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, lip enhancements and shaping facial contours. The most common areas are the glabellar lines, the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips, although other sites can also be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct.
The treatment takes about 30 minutes and immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week).
Every effort is mad to minimize any discomfort you may feel. A dental block is given prior to the treatment making the area numb prior to the injection of Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm.
During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.
Injection-related reactions such as swelling, redness and tenderness might occur. Other types of reactions are very rare, but about 1 in 2000 treated patients have experienced localized reactions thought to be of a hypersensitive nature. These have usually consisted of swelling or redness at the injection site, sometimes affecting the surrounding tissues.
Yes. Because of Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm’s careful design, it works with your body, not against it. It is a naturally occurring substance that has been used safely by physicians since 1996 worldwide. Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm is non-animal based and fully compatible with the body; therefore allergy testing is not required. Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm has minimal side effects, the most common of which is bruising. Some experience temporary localized swelling at the injection site.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape. The hylaluronic acid in Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm is stabilized for long duration and is not of animal or human origin.
It has been shown in clinical trials that Restylane®, Perlane and Juvederm is effective for up to six months, but individual results may vary.
Radiesse is a pure, synthetic compound with a record of safety that extends more than 25 years. Radiesse consists of tiny micro spheres of a synthetic material called calcium hydroxylapatite (30%) that is combined with a common hydrogel (70%) used in a vast array of products. The result is a white, creamy like substance. Calcium hydroxylapatite has chemical and structural characteristics similar to bone and therefore is naturally compatible with the body.
When injected, the cream-like texture of Radiesse feels soft and natural. Following injection, the body forms a tissue matrix around the Radiesse microspheres. Unlike temporary treatments that must be repeated frequently, Radiesse provides years of rejuvenation. Throughout its life, Radiesse remains soft and flexible and also exceptionally compatible with the body. It is gradually replaced by the body's own tissue, and slowly dissolves away in 2 to 3 years.
Radiesse has undergone extensive safety testing, and calcium hydroxylapatite has been used for many years as an implant in dentistry and surgery. Prior to its introduction, the Radiesse formula was extensively tested in the United States and Europe.
No substantial adverse reactions or rejections have been reported to date. Because Radiesse is a synthetic material and not comprised of any human or animal tissue, you cannot contract a disease from its injection. The natural compatibility of Radiesse with the body also means that no allergy testing is required, and treatment can take place immediately.
As a material, Radiesse is cream-like in texture and remains that way throughout its life. The sensitivity and feeling of enhanced areas are retained.
Once injected, its softness resembles that of your normal facial tissue. In fact, your own tissues will integrate with the Radiesse microspheres as a natural process of your body.
The amount of Radiesse injected can be accurately controlled, so you can achieve the exact amount of enhancement you desire.
Radiesse offers a combination of benefits unavailable with other approaches:
Typical Radiesse treatment includes:
Many options exist for reversing the effects of time and aging on the face, from major surgical procedures to injectable enhancements. Radiesse is a safe, durable and worry-free treatment. In less time than it takes for a hairstyle, you can present a renewed, revitalized face to the world.
Botox relaxes the muscles which cause many fine facial lines and unwanted facial expressions, typically the upper 1/3 of the face, but it does not “fill” any depressions. Fillers like Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm and Radiesse are often used on the lower 2/3's of the face to fill fine and deep creases, augment lips and cheekbones, and reduce defects like acne scars.
Restylane, Pertlane, Juvederm and Radiesse are very affordable even for those with modest incomes, but some people need to budget for these treatments, just as they would for buying accessories like shoes and having their hair styled. The Fillers are repeated every six to nine months for Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm, and every few years for Radiesse. There is little difference in cost between the products, the major cost factor is the amount of individual product needed for full correction. A consultation can answer these and any other questions you may have.
Many patients like to take a couple of plain Tylenol or Advil an hour or two before treatment (similar to what you might do before having a flu shot) to prevent discomfort. Once arriving to the office the areas are often numbed with a dental block.
Bruising is seldom a problem after Radiesse or Restylane treatment. The chance of bruising can be reduced by avoiding aspirin for 7 days prior to treatment, and minimizing your consumption of Red wine and Vitamin E for 3 days before treatment.
You can bring makeup with you, and you may apply your makeup immediately after treatment.
After Radiesse, Juvederm or Restylane treatment, you will have some swelling. Bruising is possible but uncommon. However, occasionally there is some mild pain, swelling, itching or redness at the site of injection - similar to what you could experience after any injection.
You may use cold compresses, or take acetaminophen, naproxen, Motrin, or other anti-inflammatory medication, to reduce swelling or discomfort. Redness may last for 1 - 2 days, occasionally longer in some patients. Swelling in the lips usually lasts for 2 days, but can last for up to a week, and the lips may appear somewhat uneven until the swelling subsides.
In order to allow the filler to stabilize, try to avoid excessive movement of your facial muscles for the first few days, and in particular during the first 6 hours after your treatment.
If swelling or redness occur, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. hot packs or sunbathing) or extreme cold, until these problems have resolved.
